About

Practice Description:

Lindsay qualified as a Speech-Language Therapist in 1992. She has worked in a private practice setting and as part of multi disciplinary teams in many schools. She is passionate about helping children who experience language, reading and spelling difficulties. Lindsay has presented talks to therapists and teachers on teaching phonics and has developed books and games to assist children with literacy difficulties.

Lindsay does Speech-Language Assessments and provides Speech Therapy for children who experience difficulty in the following areas:

  • Understanding language and expressive language e.g. these children are often late talkers and their sentence construction is poor. They struggle to find the correct word to use in the appropriate context.

  • Following instructions and auditory or working memory i.e. children with auditory processing difficulties battle to make sense of spoken language and may frequently ask for repetition or take a long time to process what they hear.

  • Reading and spelling (Children who are slower to pick up phonics / reading and spelling may have underlying phonological difficulties i.e. they cannot hear the difference between i/ee or f/th)

  • Pre-literacy skills and sound awareness skills e.g. children who battle to recognise letters and sounds, rhyming words and the fine differences between sounds s/z, i/e

  • Written language and written comprehensions

  • Study skills - inability to organise and summarise their notes and to extract the salient points

  • Pronouncing sounds

  • Fluency

  • Social communication
